Assunpink’s HVAC Students Ace EPA Exam

On October 31, 2007, Ken Walters’ PM HVAC class completed the industry-based EPA Exam.  The online exam gives the instructor and students instant results to their effort. The Exam consists of four areas.  A student must achieve a 72% or above in each area to pass.  Section A, commonly called the CORE, tests the students knowledge of history, science and recycling of refrigerants.  Type I is for anyone who wants to work on refrigerators and window air conditioners.  Type II is for air conditioning and refrigeration equipment such as home central air conditioning, restaurant walk-in boxes and commercial equipment.  Type III tests for very large industrial chillers used in office buildings and hospitals

Universal certification involves a mastery of all four areas.  The Universal EPA Certification in Refrigerant Handling is the industry standard for students entering the HVAC trade.  Six students achieved Universal certification, seven students earned partial certification and will retest in December to achieve universal status.  Three students have been hired by local HVAC Contractors on CIE as a result of the EPA Exam.
